# Themes overview

> The three ways to build a PapelShip storefront in code: Liquid themes, uploaded designs and the code layer for React themes.

PapelShip storefronts can be built visually, in code, or both. You edit everything in the store panel under **Themes**, and every code change goes through the same code editor, version history and security scanner.

<CardGroup cols={3}>
  <Card title="Liquid themes" icon="code" href="/en/themes/liquid">
    Shopify-style theme packages: layouts, templates, sections, snippets, assets and settings.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Designs" icon="file-code" href="/en/themes/designs">
    Upload your own HTML site and connect it to products, cart and checkout.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Code layer" icon="layer-group" href="/en/themes/code-layer">
    Add code sections, CSS and JavaScript on top of a built-in React theme.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Theme copies

Every Liquid theme, design and theme code package is a **copy** of your store. A store can keep up to 20 copies.

* Edits save to the copy you edit. A copy that is not live never changes your storefront.
* The live copy changes only when you publish or activate it in the panel.
* Every save keeps a version. You can restore any of the last 50 versions of a file.

| Limit | Value |
| - | - |
| File size | 512 KB |
| Files per copy | 400 |
| Copy size | 10 MB |
| Copies per store | 20 |

## Previews

Previews render your saved files and your unsaved editor drafts inside the panel. They are never public: the storefront shows a copy that is not live only inside the panel preview frame, with a signed token that expires after 30 minutes.

## Work with an AI agent

Connect Claude, Cursor, VS Code or another MCP client to your themes. The agent reads your theme code and saves its edits as drafts; you review and publish. See [AI agents (MCP)](/en/themes/mcp).
